In this article, we are going to show you a couple of stickhandling drills on the AttackPad training system. In this system, we have different stations and patterns to mimic specific drills and game situations. So, the first part of this drill is stickhandling in zone number 2, which is quite small so the focus here is on quickness and control. From here, you can pull the puck close to your body with a toe drag, to then push the puck back out in the middle and stickhandle in zone number 1. The same thing can be done in zone number 3 as well, and then come back towards the middle. The idea here is keeping your head up while stickhandling and always having control in these small zones.

Drill 1

In this first drill, we are going to reach out to our forehand side, pull the puck in close to our body, lift our outside leg inside and kick the puck with our leg back to our stick. The key aspect here is as you pull in, your weight should be on your left leg to essentially push back out.

Drill 2

In the second drill, we are going to work on the backhand side. When you reach out you can handle the stick with one hand too. When it comes to pulling the puck back in you are going to lift you’re left leg slightly off the ice, then kick the puck back to your stick.

Drill 3

In this last drill, we are going to be working on kicking the puck between your legs. This will force players to work on weight transfer and quick feet as well.

Each of these drills can be done in a stationary position as it is slightly easier, but once you get more comfortable, you can do them moving forward. This makes it all the more challenging.

Dribble & Pull Drill

Body Movement Stickhandling

In this video, we are going to show you how to properly move your body while stickhandling the puck, with the help of the AttackPad training system. In this drill, we are going to be working in zone number 1. We are going to be stickhandling in this zone and moving our body around the entire platform while stickhandling the puck. You can do all kinds of different things here like going completely around, change directions abruptly, switch between forehand and backhand side, etc. The goal is always aligning yourself to have proper balance and keeping your head up as well.
