Extreme Passing Kit Drills - Improving Your One-Timers!

Throughout the course of a game, a player uses different types of shots for different situations. In this video we talk about four situations where a player might use a one-time shot, and show you how to mimic these same situations at home, using HockeyShot's Extreme Passing Kit.

Here's a quick list of the four situations mentioned in the video:

  • Close to the net from the right side
  • Close to the net from the left side
  • Close to the net from the middle
  • Longer range, often from the blue line for defensemen

Your shooting strategy will vary from situation to situation, and it's important to understand where to shoot on the goalie, why to shoot there, and how to get the puck away quickly and accurately.

Here are a few tips we discuss in the video:

  • When in tight, to either side of the net, think low short side, high short side, or 5-hole
  • Stay away from the middle two feet of the net
  • When in tight in the middle, think top shelf... especially if you've picked it up off a rebound with the goalie down
  • When shooting longer range, only use a slapshot for one timers, or if you have a ton of time (which is rare at higher levels of play)
  • When shooting from the point, your main objectives are to get the puck through to the net, and to make sure it's deflectable or reboundable

A quick release is one of the most important factors in becoming a consistent goal scorer. The players who get the puck away quickly, and shoot strategically, find themselves at the top of the stat sheet more often than not... and the best part is, you don't have to be at the rink to work on it! Pick up your Extreme Passing Kit, and start working on your one-timers from home!
