SEDMHA – Minor Hockey Tournament

Halifax, Bedford and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

The SEDMHA Tournament had its beginnings during the hockey season of 1977-78. During the late fall of 77', the SEDMHA Bantam "A" (same as present day "AAA”) team was looking for a tournament to participate in during the Christmas period. When they couldn’t find a suitable Hockey Tournament in Nova Scotia, a group of parents got together and in a mere 12 days had organized their own Christmas break tournament. This tournament consisted of eight Bantam "A" teams with 136 players from across Nova Scotia all competing for tournament awards.

The SEDMHA tournament has continued to grow on an annual basis and what started out as an eight-team tournament in 1978 is now a tournament with over 250 teams, 600 games and 18 arenas, all taking place during their four-day weekend event. This 40-year-old tournament is regularly attracting teams from across North America and occasionally from Europe, with no signs of slowing down! Entering its 4th decade of operation this year, it is expected that this year over 300 teams will be registered, and eager to skate their way to the top!

In 2017 HockeyShot was pleased to provide sponsorship for SEDMHA, the largest hockey tournament on the East Coast. Looking forward, the 2018 SEDMHA Minor Hockey Tournament takes place March 29th - April 1st in Nova Scotia. Come find HockeyShot at one of the busiest local rinks in town to buy the best hockey products such as the Extreme Defender & Speed Deke Trainers. Visitors can test the products, as well as receive tips and tricks from some of the best in the business. This year there will also be many different donated prizes and giveaways from HockeyShot, such as Swedish Wooden Stickhandling Balls, Summer Skates and T-Shirts.

SEDMHA is unique in its goal to provide a Minor Hockey Tournament, a Novice Hockey Tournament and a Women’s Hockey Tournament to Nova Scotia, making ice hockey accessible to all! While the Maritimes do not have the largest population, they make up for it with their passion and enthusiasm for the game. HockeyShot is proud to support Maritime Hockey and get back to our roots on the East Coast! The dedication to get onto the ice and expand the rich Canadian hockey history in the Maritimes.
